The Year-End Reset: Clean the Kitchen Before You Cook 🧽
Bold take: You don’t need a new personality for 2026. You need a cleaner plan.
Because right now?
Most of us are trying to “start fresh” in January…
…while our business is still shaped like a junk drawer.
And I say that with love.
And with a tissue in my hand. 🤧
The Story: Christmas Week, AKA “The Olympics of Chaos” 🎄🥴
Last week felt like someone hit fast-forward on my life.
We thought we were ready for Christmas. Then my wife decided to do two craft fairs in November. That meant many weekends and evenings disappeared while she lived in her sewing cave like Batman.
I held down the fort. Kids, house, full-time work, and trying to keep my side business consistent.
Then the boys brought home a cold. And like a generous family gift we also got it.
So the two days before Christmas? Low energy and a massive to-do list.
We still got it done. Shopping, wrapping, all the things.
Then Christmas Day hit like a festive tornado. Morning presents. Brunch and more presents at my parents. Family dinner at my brother's. Late night.
Not ideal when you're trying to evict a head cold from your skull.
Boxing Day was "low-key" in the sense that I felt worse. And I'm not proud to admit it but I barely got Friday's newsletter out.
Then Saturday. Tidy the Christmas chaos. Easton's hockey tournament starts. Another family dinner. Another late night.
Now it's Sunday morning. We've got three more days of tournament including a 7:15am game on Tuesday.
Because why would a 7-year-old sport respect sleep?
But here's the good news. No more late family dinners coming up. New Year's is quiet for us. I can't even remember the last time I made it to midnight.
So this week's focus is simple. Plan the start of next year's newsletters. Finish a project I've been chipping away at. Head back to work in a week Monday feeling like I'm steering the ship again.
And that brings me to you.
This week is the perfect bridge into 2026. Not a dramatic reinvention. Just a reset.
If you've been thinking about finally getting consistent with your own newsletter or side business, now's the time.
Not January 1st when everyone else is doing it. Right now while it's quiet.
⚙️ Tactical Application: The 18-Minute Business Reset (Parent Edition) ⏱️
Here’s what we’re doing today.
Not “goal setting.”
Not “vision boarding.”
Not writing “I will be disciplined” 47 times in a notebook.
Just a quick reset that makes next week easier.
✅ Step 1: The 3-Minute Scoreboard (No Feelings, Just Facts) 🧾
Grab a note on your phone and answer these:
What worked in December?
(A post that did well, an offer that sold, an email that got replies)What didn’t work?
(Be honest. It’s not a moral failing. It’s data.)What felt heavy?
(The “ugh” tasks that drained you)What felt light?
(The stuff you could do even when tired)
You’re looking for a pattern.
Your 2026 plan should be built around what you can do on a messy Tuesday… not what you wish you did on a perfect Monday.
🧹 Step 2: The 10-Minute Cleanup (Pick ONE Mess)
Set a 10-minute timer and choose one:
Link cleanup: Update your bio link / lead magnet link / broken buttons
List cleanup: Tag new subscribers or delete bounced emails
Offer cleanup: Write a clearer sentence for what you promote and who it’s for
Folder cleanup: Put your login links + key docs in one place
“Where is that thing?” cleanup: Create ONE Google Doc called “My Business HQ” and put:
your offer link
your lead magnet link
your email platform login
your content ideas
Ten minutes.
One mess.
That’s it.
🎯 Step 3: The 5-Minute Focus Pick (One Lane Only)
Now choose your ONE focus for the first week of 2026:
A) Get your first commissions (affiliate setup + first promo)
B) Grow your email list (lead magnet + simple signup)
C) Create a simple content rhythm (so you stop “starting over”)
D) Clean up your tech + systems (so you stop losing time)
Write it down.
Then write one sentence:
“Next week, success looks like ______.”
Example:
“Next week, success looks like publishing one helpful email and one post that points to my lead magnet.”
Not huge.
Just real.
🗳️ Quick Question: What Do You Want Me to Cover in January? 👂
I want January to be built with you, not at you.
So hit reply with ONE number (seriously—just a number):
Pick a niche without spiraling
Get first commissions (beginner affiliate setup)
Grow your email list (lead magnet + simple funnel)
A content system for parent life (weekly rhythm that sticks)
Tech cleanup + templates (tools, automations, swipe files)
If you want, add a second line:
“What I’m stuck on is ______.”
I read every reply.
And the more I know what you need…
the more I can make these newsletters feel like a GPS instead of motivational wallpaper. 🧭
🧭 Intelligent Elevation: Your Business Is a Kitchen 🍳
A lot of people treat January like:
“NEW YEAR, NEW ME!”
But for most parents, January is more like:
“New year… same laundry.” 🧺
So here’s the better mindset:
Don’t start cooking a five-course meal in a trashed kitchen.
Clean one counter.
Find the spatula.
Then make something simple you’ll actually eat.
Same with your business.
Clean one thing
Pick one lane
Take one small action daily
Stack trust with your audience
That’s how you win the year without burning out by February.
💬 Closing Insight: A Quiet Week Is a Weapon 🔥
This “in-between week” is sneaky powerful.
Everyone else is:
distracted
tired
drifting
You?
You’re resetting the system.
So today, do the 18-minute reset.
Then reply with your number.
And if this helped, forward it to a friend who’s trying to build an online income while also locating a missing hockey glove. 🧤😅
“Your 2026 plan should work on a messy Tuesday, not a perfect Monday.” ✅
